ALAW Attorney Spotlight: NCBJ Blackshear Fellows
Attorneys Jefferey Fraser and Ella Roberts are two shining examples of what makes ALAW the industry leader in Bankruptcy. In addition to being outstanding attorneys, they both hold the distinct honor of having been selected by the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) as Blackshear Presidential Fellows (Fraser in 2017 and Roberts in 2018).
The Blackshear Fellowship is named after the Honorable Cornelius Blackshear - an esteemed bankruptcy judge now retired from the Southern District of New York - and awarded to attorneys deserving of special recognition for their professional accomplishments; having demonstrated the potential to further distinguish themselves in future years in the area of Bankruptcy Law.
The fellowship is highly selective and is awarded only to between one and five up-and-coming minority bankruptcy lawyers in the entire United States each year.
About Jeffrey S. Fraser, Esq.
Jeffrey Fraser serves as the Senior Managing Attorney of ALAW's Bankruptcy department and has developed a collaborative relationship with members of the local bankruptcy bar and the tremendous respect of Judges in his nine years of practice.
Fraser has also been an active participant in Florida’s Mortgage Modification Mediation Program (“MMM”); wherein Jeffrey represents Lenders (in a less adversarial capacity) in attempting to afford Debtors the most meaningful loan modification review possible. In such capacity, Jeffrey has also served as a panelist with a standing Chapter 13 Trustee, along with a Southern District of Florida Judge, on a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) panel discussing the merits of the MMM Program.
Demonstrating his belief that lawyers are public servants, Fraser is also dedicated to his local community and serves as the President of the Jamaican-American Bar Association. In such capacity, he has helped this organization create mentorship relationships with local law students and organized bankruptcy and foreclosure workshops for the South Florida community.
